Cranston, Rhode Island
The City of Cranston includes the villages of Pontiac, Garden City, Auburn, Oaklawn, Knightsville, Howard, Meshanticut, Thornton, Comstock Gardens, and Cranston village. The city is fairly urbanized, with several major arteries including I-95, I-295, and Highway 37.
Most of the old railine in Cranston has become a developed veloway for hikers and bicyclists. The Governor Sprague Mansion is an especially important historical site and warrants the attention of any history buff. Restaurants are all over, including some excellent family Italian restaurants. Restaurants of special note are too many to list, but consider Cafe Luna, Christopher's, Spain, and Galaxy worth your time and money. The Garden City shopping area is also worthy of attention, with upscale shopping in a setting like a village.
